Work Experience
Work Experience is one of the most significant opportunities to inform and prepare young people for the world of work.
By contributing to the day to day activities of a real organisation, carrying out tasks
and assisting staff in actual working environments, students gain invaluable understanding
of the expectations of employers, learn about working practices and develop the skills
that they will need to be successful in the workplace. Young people feel a sense of
real achievement and satisfaction and many see new possibilities for their future careers
which can encourage them to study harder.
Each year 1500 Hackney students, aged 14-16 and many hundreds more studying vocational
courses at school sixth forms or FE colleges need work experience placements.
Placements are most commonly needed in two week, full-time blocks or for one or two days
a week over several weeks and in some cases, up to a year.
Businesses and other organisations that host a work experience student can benefit
from some extra help in the knowledge that they are helping to shape the workforce of
tomorrow – and putting something back into the local community.
Inspire is responsible for sourcing placements from local and City employers,
conducting the necessary health and safety checks with work placement providers and
helping schools match pupils to placements. We help schools provide effective pre-placement
preparation and guidance for students and provide active support for School Co-ordinators.
We work with employers to identify suitable placements and job roles for students and
to brief and advise those that will be supervising students.
